14-day itinerary · Max elevation 5,644 m · Classic return route
Arrive in Kathmandu
Everyone arrives in Kathmandu and gathers at the hotel in the lively Thamel district. If you arrive early enough, explore the streets and trekking shops. In the evening, meet your fellow trekkers over dinner. Your trek guide provides a detailed briefing on the upcoming adventure.
Fly to Lukla → Trek to Phakding
Late-night or early-morning transfer to Ramechhap, followed by a flight to Lukla. Spellbinding Himalayan views on this short flight! Then it's time to start Nepal's most famous trek — a relatively flat 7.8 km hike through a leafy valley and pretty Sherpa settlements to the riverside village of Phakding.
Trek to Namche Bazaar
Today's 11.3 km trail meanders through evergreen forest alongside the picturesque Dudh Kosi river, crossing high suspension bridges festooned with prayer flags. The final stretch is a challenging climb up to Namche Bazaar, the regional hub of the Khumbu region.
Trek to Pangboche
Sublime and dramatic scenery on today's 13.5 km hike. En route, visit Tengboche Monastery — the biggest in the region — before pushing on to Pangboche further up the valley, where another historic monastery awaits.
Trek to Dingboche
Trek 6.9 km and ascend well above the tree line to the valley floor village of Dingboche. Painted buildings, colourful prayer flags and a yellow-topped stupa offer a warm contrast to the hardy scrub and soaring snow-encrusted peaks.
Acclimatisation Day in Dingboche
A rest day to allow your body to acclimatise to the high altitude. Those who feel up to it can enjoy a roundtrip day hike to take in the austere and arresting scenery. Keep your eyes open for musk deer, Himalayan tahrs, golden eagles, Tibetan snowcocks and shore larks.
Trek to Lobuche
On today's 12 km trek, pass by memorials honouring climbers who have perished on nearby peaks — a poignant reminder of the unforgiving nature of the region. If energy allows, hike the 1 km to the fascinating Italian Pyramid research centre.
Trek to Everest Base Camp → Gorakshep
The big day! An 11.2 km push to Everest Base Camp — thin air makes every kilometre more taxing than usual. Celebrate at the iconic site with its riot of prayer flags, the majestic Khumbu Icefall, and dizzyingly high peaks. Overnight at Gorakshep.
Climb Kala Patthar → Trek to Pheriche
Rise early to tackle the challenging but supremely rewarding hike up Kala Patthar (5,644 m) — the 'Black Rock' — for the finest views of Mt Everest, hopefully bathed in the rising sun. Then trek to the quiet village of Pheriche alongside the Tsola River.
Trek to Khumjung Village
Trek 17 km to the Sherpa farming community of Khumjung Village in the Green Valley, deviating from the outbound path onto a fresh trail. Visit the 400-year-old Khumjung Monastery, a beautiful mani wall, and the legendary Everest Bakery Café (try the apple pie!).
Trek to Monjo
Today's 7.9 km trek feels like a hop and a skip — a largely downhill hike through ever-greener scenery, forest paths, suspension bridges, and the soothing soundtrack of the Dudh Kosi river.
Trek to Lukla
Conclude the trek with a 12.8 km return to Lukla — the same stretch traversed on Day 2, which now feels so long ago! Rest in the afternoon, then head out for drinks and dinner to celebrate the milestone achievement of trekking to Everest Base Camp and back.
Fly to Kathmandu
Flight from Lukla to Ramechhap, followed by transfer back to Kathmandu.
Departure Day
As the Nepal adventure draws to a close, enjoy a seamless transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure flight. The incredible experiences and memories forged on this trek will stay with you long after you touch down back home.
